EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO SPOT WHERE I WAS
Runways, spotter corners and weather conditions
When digital photography was still in its infancy, I went to my first airshow in 1995, armed with a simple camera. At the small-scale airport of Ursel (Belgium) I was immediately introduced to the Red Arrows, a Tornado F3, two Sukhoi SU-27s (the “test pilots” with Anatoly Kvotchur) and some other amazing things.
In 1996 I made my first visit to Fairford (UK) for the so-called Royal International Air Tattoo, or RIAT for short. Visiting the largest military airshow in the world and parking the car under the wings of a B-1B Lancer… then it was all possible.
Times have changed and more than 25 years later, I'm using different Nikon bodies and lenses such as 50-500 mm by Sigma and a 150-600 mm by Tamron to take my pictures.
A lot was ticked off in those 25 years. Tigermeets in Kleine Brogel (B) and Cambrai (F), for example, and the “Open Days” in the Netherlands became a permanent fixture. In Payerne (SUI) I was allowed to experience the “Patrouille des Patrouilles”, all major European teams in one formation. But the British air shows are on the highest level, Fairford, Waddington (now gone) and Yeovilton are definitely “must go's” for any fanatic.
About 10 years ago I started (finally) spotting civilian aircrafts. First in my own country with a few visits to Brussels Airport; Schiphol, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt and especially Heathrow followed soon.
On this website you will also find photos of smaller events, such as Ursel Avia. These are therefore no less interesting.
Military exercises (Frisian Flag) and visits to military bases can also be found on the relevant page over time.
A page with old scanned photos will also be available later on.
I would like to thank you in advance for visiting my website and don't forget to check the updates from time to time !
For questions, information and suggestions you can always visit the info page.
Have a safe flight !
